Mountain Lion Highlights

9/14/2015 2:56 am: A typical night at Warbler Pond as a Gray Fox makes a visit with no indication of what is to come. 9/14/2015 5:54 am: A Mountain Lion cub walks by Warbler Pond and takes a quick look before entering Barranca Canyon. 9/15/2015 7:55 pm: A full 38 hours later the Mother Mountain Lion comes into the pond. She stretches out her long, muscular body to get a drink. The DSLR captured great high resolution details like her tongue as she lapped up the water. Mountain Lion, Los Alamos, NM Mountain Lion, Los Alamos, NM Mountain Lion, Los Alamos, NM Once she crouches she looks a lot smaller. Here she's probably looking at one of the other critter cam flashes going off. Time to get back on the prowl. 9/15/2015 7:59 pm: Once she stretches out her body and tail she is over 6 feet long! She disappears into the canyon 4 minutes after arriving. 9/15/2015 11:52 pm: Raccoons make their almost daily visit seeming to take no notice of who had visited! 9/16/2015 7:55 pm: 24 hours after the Mother Cougar visited, a herd of deer visits. Maybe the cougars are stalking this herd! 9/16/2016 11:01 pm: A lone Coyote visits. 9/17/2015 3:26 am: Amazingly, the mother Mountain Lion returns. Making 3 visits of a Cougar over a 4 day time period. We can tell this is again the mother by comparing the size of this cougar to the one that visited on 9/14/2015. This time she stood up while drinking, instead of sitting down. She came back to almost the same spot. The critter cam setup close to the pond got two nice full body shots Not quite as sharp as the DSLR After returning, she again set off for another 6 minutes. She then returned to the canyon. The DSLR allows for sharp pictures even zoomed in. 9/17/2015 3:46 am: After 20 minutes near Warbler Pond, here is the final photo of this amazing predator as she returns to Barranca Canyon! 9/17/2015 5:00 pm: I had heard Bobcats avoid areas with Mountain Lions but our resident Bobcat was at Warbler Pond the same day! Here are composites combining the sunrise with the Mother Cougar visit.
