For my 40th Birthday, Gowri sent me on a dream trip to Peru to see Machu Pichu and the Amazon along the famous Manu Road. For the Manu Road I had an excellent guide, Vigilio Yabar of Amazonia Lodge (the lodge with one of the largest bird lists in the world!). Over the course of a week, Virgilio showed me so many amazing birds, mammals, flowers and the Amazon region. We went from 10,000 ft of the Andean passes to close to sea level passing a wide variety of habitats including paramo, cloud forest, and rain forest. He also made sure I got good pictures of shy, often difficult to see birds. Here is one of the most difficult to photograph, an antbird. It is not as spectacular as some of the others but he has very interesting patterns. They are shy and only precise playback of their call, the right location and patience allowed me to get this shot:   (Click). We saw many other types of antbirds but could not get shots of most of them.
