Satin Bowerbird, O'Reilly's Guesthouse, Australia

Amazingly we saw the Satin Bowerbird working on his bower carefully decorating it with blue items. Australia has adjusted its bottlecaps to not choke the Satin Bowerbird. This is the exact bird filmed by BBC's Planet Earth, the top wildlife photography program narrated by David Attenborough.

This bird is called the Undertaker since this bower is next to a shack that looks like it belongs to a grave digger. Even when other Satin Bowerbirds are relaxing the Undertaker is known for carefully tending to his bower making sure its perfect so its not too surprising we managed to see him at work. A real thrill. Apparently, bower building is a competitive business where males steal from each other and destroy each others bowers to create to perfect bower to attact the female.
