This showy hummingbird is quite common at the Cock of the Rock lodge thanks to the same Verbena flowers that attract the Rufous-Crested Coquette at the Amazonia lodge. The Booted-rackettail is not as fussy as the Coquette and Wire-crested Thorntail and is willing to come to feeders as well as the Verbena. The other two species only come to the flowers. The rackets on his tail are bluish-black and shimmer in the sun. From the front you can see he has buff colored pufflegs adding to his oramentation: (Click). He is even more spectacular while feeding: (Click).
