Precariously perched on the pumice are boulder caps that protect the softer pumice and tuff below. In locations where the cap has disintegrated, erosion of the soft layers results in these hoodoo like structures. While fairly uniform in shape, the tent rock formations vary in height from a few feet to 90 feet.
