Day 13: Genovesa Island

On the eighth and final day of our cruise we took at morning walk on Genovesa Island. From a distance I something that looked like a bright red plastic bag and thought what a shame it was that someone had littered. It turned out to be a Magnificent Frigrate bird displaying! Again, we lucked out that this was mating season to be able to see him in action.

Great Frigate, the 2nd type of frigatebird on the islands, already had chicks and we saw this cutey.

Sea lions also had babies and we got see this cute scene between mother and baby. Several years later, when we had our own son Aditya, he would do this with us and called it "nose to nose".

Finally as we were boarding the dingy to return to the ship we saw this Swallow-tailed Gull, the only nocturnal gull.

Visiting the Galapagos was an amazing experience. We saw so much every day that in a way I appreciate it even more looking back at everything we saw. While it was happening, so many amazing things kept appearing, multi-colored beaches, volcanoes, evolutionary adaptations, great under water scenery, etc. that it was difficult to take it all in as it was happening. I'm really glad we took plenty of photos to capture on the memories. We finished up our cruise and boarded a plane back to Quito. There we would have a day to look around before returning back home.
