After successfully viewing the amazing wildebeest crossing on the morning of 6/27/17, we had the rest of the day to see what else we could find. Usually, midday is quiet since it is hot and most animals are resting. However, we ran into this majestic solitary male feeding at another wildebeest kill. Clearly during migration, there is so much prey that things can be active at any time. In our last trip we hardly ever saw a male lion open his eyes the entire trip!
Seeing a majestic male feeding was quite a sight.
Soon after seeing the solitary male lion, we came across something TJ said he'd never seen in his guiding which he'd been doing since 1976! We saw three pairs of lions mating all within about 50 meters of one another! This was more amazing behavior none of us expected to see. This pairs mating seems quite violent and you can definitely see those powerful canines.
After mating was complete it looked like they may actually get into a fight. We thought maybe this was typical behavior.
However, this mating pair seemed much more lovey dovey.
No teeth were bared and no violent display afterwards.
The male in the final pair we saw was probably the most majestic lion we saw. It is possible to find the names of the different lions in the Mara Triangle using an online database. We determined this handsome fellow is Jamal and he is an intimidating fellow!
It was amazing to see the ferocity of magnificient Jamal up close.
Getting so many great looks was really something.
