Perhaps the most rare sighting we have ever had. Our guide Rodrigo who had guided for 12 years had never seen a Puma in day light and had only seen 5 during night safaris. He couldn't believe we saw this mother and cub at 10 am in the morning. He said it was the rarest thing he had ever seen and he guides almost every day. We have Mountain Lions which are Pumas in our home town of Los Alamos and had our dog killed by a Mountain Lion. This is also very rare. Camera traps I have set up have photographed Mountain Lions on average once or twice a year even though the cameras are on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So in some ways I seem to have had way more looks of Pumas than most. Aditya has always wanted to see a Mountain Lion the Apex predator of Los Alamos and was thrilled at this sighting!
