Red-leaf Monkey, Gomantong Caves,, Malaysia (7/2022)

The Red Leaf Monkey inhabits primary and secondary forest on the island of Borneo, up to elevations of around 2000 metres. It appears to adapt reasonably well to areas of regenerating, logged forest. Like other leaf monkeys, this species feeds on a variety of fresh leaves, seeds, fruits and flowers. Liew felt we had seen most of the river area so found out that a special permit could be obtained to visit the area outside the caves. The caves were under construction when we visited.
