Veil Nebula (NGC 6920 and NGC 6992)

Two beautiful supernova fragments that are quite challenging to photograph. This is a widefield shot that captures both the eastern and western portions that are moving away from another as the explosion propagates. They do emit hydrogen alpha which we can capture with our modified DSLR and ha filter. However, it also emits Oxygen for which we do not have a filter. A CCD camera with a filter wheel would do better but this isn't too bad.

Our 8 inch telescope does a pretty good job of capturing the veil-like filaments of the Eastern Veil thereby giving it its name.

The Western Veil is also called the Witches Broom for good reason. Our shot could be sharper but a CCD camera would be required. This shot uses 5 hours of RGB and 4 hours of hydrogen alpha but is still soft.
